The Fast Fading Spirit

Spirit is the most important ingredient for success. If you have the spirit, nothing else really matter. One who has a fountain within him which produces this spirit infinitely can have anything he desires in this world. But that fountain certainly is very rare. What is more common is the fast fading spirit that is prevalent among every one of us!

Ever felt lightning streak of patriotism emanate from within you when you hear A R Rahman strike the chord with his Vande Mataram? Ever felt an urge to do something impactful immediately after a highly motivational lecture? Ever thought of quitting all your bad habits in a fit after a heartbreak? Ever made up your mind to step forward against all odds after watching an inspiring movie? Ever read a quote which felt like a direct injection of energy into your heart making it pump extra blood through your veins pushing you out of procrastination?

This instant “maggi” kinda stuff is what I call the fast fading spirit. It will give you a high like feeling to do something immediately but the worst part is it fades away as fast as it appeared.

The most amusing occurrence of this fast fading spirit in my schooldays was after watching every Jackie Chan movie in Vijay TV. Those were the time when I used to resist sleep till 1.00 am to watch the movies in nights. From Project A to Armour of God, I watched every single Jackie Chan movie released since then while Jackie spoke with a Chennai accent of tamil thanks to the comical dubbing. Although his stunts were all original, they were dangerous for us to try. But I was that type of guy who turns a blind eye to the “Don’t imitate this at home” warnings. That seemed like kid stuffs even while I was still a kid.
Naturally next morning, I would start imitating his stunts not only at home but even at streets. Our house was in a narrow or should I say a very narrow street. I found a weird thrill in driving my bicycle at very high speed through that street. My stunts would be on high octane the day after watching the movie and it would start dying till getting rejuvenated by the next film. So these were all very high spirited stunts performed by an amateur which could potentially be dangerous. Fortunately I haven’t got bruised up due to any of these stunt going wrong. Not to mention that I have been pretty lucky a number of times!

I didn’t contain this dangerous stunt mania with myself. I would tease my friends into racing through narrow streets at night. Thankfully no one opened windows while we were cruising those streets at high speed. If they had, it would have certainly been a scene from Project A. Hope my friends Vishak (Vishak Arumuga @facebook) and Jinu (whom I’ve lost touch with) would remember this freaky cycling through dark narrow streets at night after mathematics tuitions.

The point is very simple – Keep yourself motivated every day. Find things that inspire you (in a productive way. Indulging in street stunts is strictly not advisable) and take a regular dose of them so that you can keep up the spirit ever flowing. Because it fades fast. Make the best use of the fast fading spirit because it gives you a very high voltage of energy.
